Welcome to Team NuBurd!

Home of NuBurd’s Sharing Hope for Families Fund

Created with an initial gift of $100,000 from the Renn-Sanchez Family in May 2021, the fund financially supports families and children that are battling cancer at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) -- like our superhero “NuBurd” did (and rang the bell in May 2023!) -- and need help with all the financial challenges associated with kicking cancer’s butt!

NuBurd's Sharing Hope for Families Fund made its public debut at the 2021 Parkway Run & Walk presented by Citadel raising nearly $57,000 from our family and friends. We've collectively raised over $420,000 to help families and children. We've set our all-in goal at $1,000,000!

NuBurd's Fund continues to expand its impact in the Cancer Center. In 2025, the Fund contributed to the Patient Resource Navigator position that manages and implements Cancer Center programs designed to meet the ongoing resource needs of families and children receiving treatment at CHOP.

A little bit more about the logo....

Nuala Burd was named for Nuala's late maternal grandfather, Burd Leonard Renn Jr. A jazz saxophonist, he was professionally known as "Buzzy" or "Buzz" but was formally named after his father, Burd Leonard Renn Sr. and spent much of his life explaining his name. Though spelled differently, he fully embraced the avian nature of his name and often referred to the family's home as the "Renn's Nest." Nu Burd's logo features a fairy wren, a type of wren with colorful plumage. This vibrant little bird represents our little "fairy" and the spirited energy she brings to those around her.
